Treatment of gonorrhoea with actinospectacin.

چکیده
Since it first became available penicillin has been, and probably remains, the antibiotic of choice in the treatment of gonorrhoea. In recent years, however, the recognition of treatment failures due to less sensitive strains of N. gonorrhoeae (Medical Research Council Working Party Report, 1961) and the increasing risk of serious hypersensitivity reactions in patients given penicillin for a relatively benign infection, have encouraged venereologists to examine the value of other antibiotics in gonorrhoea. Streptomycin is no alternative because many strains of N. gonorrhoeae are now highly resistant and toxic reactions to this antibiotic, although not fatal, can be troublesome. Oral therapy finds no favour with the venereologist whose patients are ambulant and often cannot be relied upon to take pills as prescribed. An injectable tetracycline phosphate (Panmycin) was tried, but pain occurred at the injection site in a third of the patients and daily injection for 2 days was

Effect of Actinospectacin (trobicin) in Experimental Syphilis in the Rabbit. Ii. in Subclinical Incubating Syphilis.
The broad-spectrum antibiotic actinospectacint may have general application in human therapy. Its effectiveness in the treatment of gonorrhoea has been reported by Willcox (1962) and by Laird and Taylor (1962). Earlier studies in this laboratory demonstrated its effect in experimental early lesion syphilis in the rabbit (Clark and Yobs, 1963). Patients with symptomatic gonorrhoea may also have ...

Actinospectacin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic derived from Streptomyces spectabilis, was released for clinical trials more than 10 years ago. Although it possesses activity against many micro-organisms, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, its use has been limited mainly to the treatment of gonorrhoea. Its efficacy in the treatment of this disease has been reported by a number of investigators....

Trobicin (Actinospectacin) is a new antibiotic obtained from Streptomyces spectabilis developed by the Research Laboratories of Messrs. Upjohn. It is prepared as a white powder, 1 4-1 6 g. of which is dissolved in distilled water. It has been stated to have a wide range of antibacterial activity and has already been shown (Willcox, 1962) to be effective in cases of acute gonorrhoea in males whe...

In recent years, the increase in the frequency of gonorrhoea has reached alarming levels in many countries (Hart, 1971; Guthe, 1971; Juhlin, 1971; Delune, 1971; Gay-Prieto, 1971). Some believe that gonorrhoea is now 'out of control' mainly because of non-medical factors (Guthe, 1971; Baccareda-Boy and Rebora, 1971; Sparling and McKenzie-Pollock, 1971). Although Neisseria gonorrhoeae is suscepti...
متن کاملTrobicin (actinospectacin), a new injectable antibiotic in the treatment of gonorrhoea.
Numerous workers in many countries (Willcox, 1961) have reported increasing failure rates in the treatment of gonorrhoea both with penicillin and with streptomycin (Alergant, 1958). Evidence is accumulating of an increased number of strains of gonococci which are less sensitive to these antibiotics than formerly (Cradock-Watson, Shooter, and Nicol, 1958; Curtis and Wilkinson, 1958). Although "r...
